The paper “Biochemical and reproductive effects of red mud to earthworm Eisenia fetida” was published in the journal Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety (IF: 3,974) in collaboration with dr. sc. Viktoria Feigl, a colleague from Budapest.

Earthworm of the species E. fetida were exposed to mixtures of artificial soil and red mud from Croatia (CRRM) and Hungary (HURM). The effect on the metabolic status of organisms was quantified through measurements of biomarkers, AChE, CAT, GST, the amount of metallothioneins. By counting juveniles, the reproductive success of the organisms was also examined. Both red muds, CRRM and HURM, have influenced the measured biomarkers of oxidative stress.
